At Salmon Evolution’s land-based facility in Indre Harøy, fish sludge—composed of feed spill and fish waste—is no longer a problem but a solution. This material, often seen as an environmental challenge, is now being repurposed in an innovative way.

After being collected, filtered, and dried into a solid mass, the sludge is transported to nearby farms. There, it’s combined with livestock manure to produce biogas—a clean, renewable energy source that powers the farms themselves.

This collaboration between the “blue” marine industry and the “green” agricultural sector highlights a longstanding connection between Norway’s coastal and farming communities. These industries have coexisted for centuries, and now, by working together, they are leading the charge toward a greener future. Through this partnership, potential waste is transformed into energy, establishing a new model for sustainable production.

Salmon Evolution sees this as the future of aquaculture: a circular economy where nothing goes to waste.
