Salmon Evolution is starting 2026 by achieving a key milestone at Indre Harøy. The very first tank of Phase 2 has now been successfully filled with seawater—an essential step in the commissioning process. This confirms that key systems are operating as intended and demonstrates that the project continues to progress according to plan.
Phase 2 on Track for 18,000 Tonnes of Land-Based Salmon
Just a year and a half after breaking ground, Phase 2 remains on track to take the production capacity to 18,000 tonnes HOG of land-based salmon once fully completed.
“Filling the first tank is a symbolic moment for all of us,” says Kamilla Mordal Holo, Chief Project & Technology Officer. “It demonstrates that the systems we have designed and built are performing exactly as intended—and, most importantly, it brings us closer to what truly matters: welcoming new smolt into their future home.”
Learnings From Phase 1 Strengthen Phase 2 Execution
This milestone also reflects the strong foundation established during Phase 1. Valuable learnings and operational experience from phase 1 have been implemented in phase 2, ensuring a efficient and robust project. While the tank is now filled, further testing, verification, and final completion work remain before the facility is ready for the first smolt release.
“Our team in cooperation with our contractors have worked with consistency and strong focus to reach this point,” Holo adds. “Seeing water flow through the system as planned gives us confidence as we move into the next phase of commissioning.”
Testing, Verification and First Smolt Release
With the first tank filled and commissioning well underway, preparations now turn toward the next major milestone, introducing smolt to the new facility once all testing and final checks are completed.
This marks another major step in Salmon Evolution’s journey to extend the ocean’s potential—responsibly, sustainably, and on land.
